Saliva problems
Why do we test your saliva?
Saliva is one of the body's first defenses in protecting your teeth from erosion and tooth decay. By neutralizing the acids produced after eating or drinking, the saliva acts as a buffer. If there are serious issues with your dental health, this may be due to the quality and/or amount of saliva your body produces.

Here at Duncraig Dental Care we perform a simple test to check your saliva and the results indicate if it is healthy and able to adequately protect your teeth.
What will the test involve?
The test comprises of a few different components, examining your saliva but also the plaque on your teeth and the bacteria in your mouth. Don't worry, you don't need to study at all, but you will have to refrain from eating or drinking for at least 1 hour prior to the appointment, as food and drinks can affect the results.
Who performs the test?
You will be booked in with the friendly Hygiene Department at Duncraig Dental Care for around 30-40mins. Your dental hygienist will give you detailed instructions and it is all very easy to do, step by step.
What happens if my saliva is unhealthy?
You will be given advice of how to improve your saliva. This may be through dietary change or a discussion with your GP about medications. We can also show you how to use saliva replacement products and give advice on caring for your teeth.
